This morning, I shared with our team that after a thorough and detailed process, we have restructured our organization to support the next phase of our growth and maturity, leading to a 12% reduction in our workforce.

Cityblock has grown tremendously in the six years since our founding, spurred by our mission to support marginalized communities across the country with sustainable, high-quality healthcare. As we ready ourselves for further expansion, we have taken a thorough look at our organization to ensure that we’re set up for long-term success. Some of the critical changes we’ve made to enable key processes through technology, standardize our care teams, and reduce layers for stronger accountability, unfortunately, require parting ways with a number of our incredible colleagues. These changes are part of the company’s maturation, ensuring that we are even better positioned to tackle the next chapter of growth and impact.

As we say goodbye to 155 highly-valued colleagues who have helped get us to where we are today, it is our top priority to support them in a way that reflects our deep respect and gratitude. We are notifying all impacted individuals through one-on-one conversations today, providing information on severance packages, extended medical insurance through COBRA and continuation of mental health support through the end of the year, as well as job transition and outplacement support. We will always be grateful to these teammates for the role that they’ve played in helping Cityblock transform health outcomes for so many.

As we look ahead, our mission remains the same — we are firm in our belief that it’s both possible and necessary to create a sustainable, successful value-based care model serving Medicaid and dually eligible populations. There’s a profound opportunity to create lasting social value through transforming the healthcare experience for populations that the system has historically left behind. To achieve this, we must continue to strive both for excellence in the quality of care we provide, as well as for efficiency and sustainability. Through today’s action we’re doing just that and emerging a stronger company — more agile, more nimble, and more effective at delivering on this promise.
